Ayrton Giménez: “That title was a dream. And Naples? A special bond, like the one with Maradona”

Ayrton Giménez, 26 years old, nicknamed Pacman, is one of the most promising talents in South American boxing. Born in La Plata, Argentina, he holds a professional record of 22 wins and only 1 loss, and is currently riding a 5-fight winning streak. On March 22, 2025, he solidified his reputation by defending his South American and WBO Latino Super Featherweight titles.

In this short but sincere interview, Ayrton answers five questions that shed light on his career, his mindset, and his personal connection to Italy, football… and of course, Diego Armando Maradona.

What did you feel after your latest victory? What did it mean to hold that belt in your hands?

“Mucha alegría. That Latin title was something my team and I had been chasing for a while. Achieving it brought us huge satisfaction.”

A simple, honest joy — built through dedication. Ayrton speaks like someone who knows that every win is earned through sweat and sacrifice.

Are you already preparing for your next fight? What are the key steps in your training, and what changes depending on your opponent?

“I don’t have a fight date yet, but we’re already training. The key, for me, is sparring — working with other pros and champions helps you perform at your best. And physical preparation is fundamental, of course.”

Training without a date means staying motivated without a finish line. Giménez doesn’t wait for opportunities — he creates them, day by day.

Throughout your career, who were the toughest opponents? Is there anyone you respect more than others, inside or outside the ring?

“I’ve faced several tough opponents, but the most difficult ones were definitely Blas Caro and Lucas Montesino. They hit hard and were really dangerous in the ring.”

Two names well-known in South American boxing circles. Giménez beat Blas Caro by unanimous decision on April 30, 2022, and Lucas Matías Montesino by technical decision on August 12, 2022.

Your profile shows your passion for boxing… but there’s also a photo of Maradona! Do you like football? Do you follow Napoli?

“Diego is the greatest of all. At my last fight, the crowd unveiled a flag with his face. In Argentina, Napoli is highly respected and followed because of what Diego did for that club.”

Talking football with an Argentine is like talking about family. And if Maradona is involved, the connection to Naples is almost sacred. Giménez speaks with admiration and pride: Napoli and Maradona are one and the same.

There’s a unique bond between Naples and Argentina. Have you ever visited Naples? Would you like to?

“I had the chance to fight in Italy, but I couldn’t visit Naples. I’d really love to one day.”

Naples lives in the hearts of many Argentinians — and Ayrton is no exception.

A fighter with values

Skilled, humble, and focused: Ayrton “Pacman” Giménez represents the truest side of this sport.

He’s not chasing catchy phrases. He trains, listens, and lets his performance speak for itself. But when he talks about his journey, the challenges, the daily grind — and when he says “I’d love to visit Naples” — it’s clear that this young fighter has a lot to offer, not just in terms of talent, but also identity and heart.
